A world-class convention & hotel experience only Hard Rock can deliver!
Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana – a premier entertainment destination that has drawn more than 8 million visitors in less than four years – is ready to deliver a state-of-the-art convention center and world-class hotel to Lake County.
The City of Gary has formed an alliance with Hard Rock and AECOM to develop, construct and operate the new Lake County Convention Center.
This is a game-changing development that will contribute to the revitalization of Gary and benefit the region. Our proposed 145,000-square-foot convention center and vibrant Hard Rock Hotel, with an estimated 300 rooms, will bring world-class events and entertainment to Lake County, Indiana, and fill a long-standing void for premier venue space in the region.
By capitalizing on the draw of Northwest Indiana’s leading tourist attraction, this project will further boost tourism, create jobs, generate opportunities for local vendors and contribute to long-term economic growth.

The Lake County Board of Commissioners are expected to decide before May 31, 2025, according to the timeline established by state statute.
If you want to help, bring the Lake County Convention Center to Gary, here’s how you can make a difference:
No. This project will be funded entirely through gaming taxes, state matching funds, $30 million over 20 years from Hard Rock, and no proposed increase in the innkeeper’s tax.
If Gary is selected as the location, the first phase of design and permitting would take approximately six months and construction would take about 18 months.
During construction, we can expect up to 250 workers on-site per day at peak activity. Over the course of the project, the total number of individual jobs created could reach up to 1,000.
Yes, local businesses will have significant opportunities to participate and benefit from the convention center. We are prioritizing partnerships with local vendors, small businesses, and WMBE firms to provide goods and services for the center. Additionally, increased visitor traffic will increase business for nearby restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and service providers.
Yes, Hard Rock has always been committed to building a hotel as part of a second phase of development.
Hard Rock has acquired nearly all of the property needed for this convention center and we continue to negotiate with a few remaining property owners.
If Gary is selected for the convention center, a private developer plans to build restaurants, retail and two more hotels, including a REVERB by Hard Rock hotel, on the west side of Burr Street. That development will be privately financed and is not included in the funding mechanism for the convention center.
The convention center will have a dedicated management team responsible for daily operations, security, and event coordination. Hard Rock will oversee facility management, leveraging its extensive experience in operating convention spaces nationwide. Additionally, local law enforcement and private security firms will collaborate to ensure a safe environment for all visitors and staff.
More than two dozen local businesses, community organizations, and emergency service personnel have expressed their enthusiastic support for our proposal. They recognize its potential to drive economic growth, generate jobs and transform Gary and all of Lake County into a premier destination for events and tourism.
